In response to today's Spending Review, Samaritans calls for more suicide prevention funding
“Before coming to power this government committed to tackling the biggest killers, including suicide, but while they announce £80 million a year to cut smoking rates, they haven’t dedicated a penny to cutting suicide rates - the biggest killer of people under 35 and men under 50. If the Government is serious about saving lives it needs to start backing its promises with real investment in the crisis support services that help to save lives, including Samaritans.”
Julie Bentley, Chief Executive, Samaritans
